GOVERNOR ORTOM SHOULD LEARN FROM A GOOD NEIGHBOR
WHY GOVERNOR ORTOM SHOULD LEARN FROM A GOOD NEIGHBOR
There's this factual perception that a good neighbour routinely sways our actions and mental objectivism to betterment. While I stand firmly on this widescale consensus, I am somewhat disoriented observing the opposite in our Governor's case.
Warming up for 2015 General elections, the Ebonyi state governor then, Martin Elechi, made public his intention to back Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu (former health minister), as his successor instead of his erstwhile deputy, Dave Umahi. And by further endorsing his harsh decision, Elechi declared in a public function that Dave Umahi as his deputy, lacks the spirit of accommodation and other qualities necessary for a person occupying such position. Luckily, Dave managed to snatch the ticket, and later won the Gubernatorial election.
Today, Umahi is the Governor of Ebonyi state, and instead of picking a fight with his former boss which could have been perilous to the development of Ebonyi state, and further validate the earlier claims of his former boss, Umahi is rather working day and night to vindicate himself from Kelechi's earlier harsh position.
Ebonyi state IGR is one of the lowest in Nigeria, and with a wee FAAC comparable to Benue. The current occupant of the Ebonyi state government house took oath of office the same May 29th as his Benue counterpart.
Today, the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, who is from APC camp is on a 2-days working visit in Ebonyi state. Below are Mr President day-one activities:
Buhari commissioned the 700m length of Dr Akanu Ibiam Twin Flyover Bridges over the African Trans-Sahara route, running from Enugu to Cameroon.
The President also commissioned the14.5km Federal Road, constructed by Ebonyi State Government.
President Buhari, who is on official visit to Ebonyi State unveiled the statue of Dr Akanu Ibiam, and also laid the foundation stone for President Muhammadu Buhari Flyover Bridge/Road Tunnel.
The President later laid foundation for the erection of an Ultra Modern Shopping Mall in the state. The mall is built after the famous Dubai mall UAE, and plans are underway for Buhari led FG to approve the loan to fund the project. The President is expected to return to this same spot to commission the Ebonyi mall by this time next year.
The immediate past Governor of our dear state, Rt. Hon Gabriel Torwua Suswam refused to support the former minister for state, trade and investment to clinch the Gubernatorial ticket under PDP platform, stating clearly that Mr Ortom lacks the necessary qualities, needed for such reverend position. Luckily, Ortom is the Governor of Benue state today.
Is Ortom validating the earlier claims of his predecessor?
Instead of coming to reality with the task associated with good leadership, our scarce resources are rather been channeled for a revenge.
When is our Governor going to learn from a good neighbour?
